You can’t own a business in today’s world without technology. Whether you have a small bakery or a local hardware store, without computers to keep track of inventory and to order new products or supplies, you’d be out of business. Businesses run easier and smoother with technology.

It’s important to decide what technology is essential to your business. Many companies offer cell phones to their employees, especially those in the sales and customer service departments because they understand how important it is for these employees to immediately be reached by customers during working hours. Some companies even provide tablet PCs, such as Apple iPads, so they can demonstrate products via the tablet to potential customers.

One new service that can be vital to businesses is online faxing. This service eliminates the need for fax machines by allowing companies to send and receive faxes via the Internet. Faxes are received as a PDF or JPG file, which saves money because they’re not printed and allows companies to have a digital copy of all faxes received.

Today’s technology also has replaced phones in many ways. Now most communication is done through web cams, email, texting, and instant messages. This is easier than phone calls because it’s easier to respond to a quick question through an IM than it is by calling. Many times employees are too busy to answer a phone, but they’ll respond to a chat message or text.

It’s amazing how technology has changed the way we do business. It’s affected every aspect of our lives.
